Car for the New Millennium!

So Realistic You Can Feel the Speed!
This 1:18 scale replica is a precision die-cast
reproduction of the #8 Audi R8R that finished
3rd in Audi's Grand Prix debut in 1999. With exact
logos and insignias, a wired detailed version
of its massive V-8 engine, and working steering
and suspension, this Le Mans Audi looks just as
it did amazing over 200,000 Le Mans spectators
June 12th and 13th 1999.
In the late 1990s, famous German automaker Audi
decided to enhance their image for speed by developing
a Grand Prix class Le Mans racecar. Led by Audi's
Head of Sport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, their designers
and engineers outdid themselves in developing
the R8R.
Its 3594 cubic centimeter V-8 engine provided
the power. A revolutionary new design featured
a long tail which both reduced drag and also hid
the long diffuser, a modification made necessary
by Grand Prix rules against having the diffuser
extend beyond the car's body.
Team Director Reinhold Joest put the cars fortunes
in the hands of experienced drivers Frank Biela,
Didier Theys and Emanuele Pirro. With only the
most minor of problems, replacing a brake disc
and exhaust pipe, they were able to drive the
Audi to a 3rd place finish, averaging over 125
mph. for the 24-hour race. Using the same style
car, Audi was then able to win the Grand Prix
in 2000 and 2001.
