BMW Z8 Replica
2002 BMW Z8 Roadster
BMW's Lofty Roadster
The Z8 combines classic styling with state-of-the-art
engineering in a thoroughbred high-speed roadster
for the fortunate few. But you need a fortune
to buy one because rabid demand and low volume
drive selling prices way above the lofty sticker.
Limited-edition, high-performance 2-seat convertible.
The fully equipped Z8 features a power soft top,
removable hardtop, an internal skeleton structure
made largely of aluminum, a 4.9-liter V8 borrowed
from the high-performance M5 sedan, and mandatory
6-speed manual transmission.
Also standard are side airbags, antilock 4-wheel
disc brakes, 18-inch wheels, run-flat tires with
pressure-warning system. Retro-look dashboard
has high, legible central gauges, but lights and
ignition switches require an awkward reach around
the steering wheel.
The navigation system is fiendishly complex to
program and an odd control arrangement forces
the driver to use two switches to operate the
right-side window. And the top's plastic rear
window is inexcusable at the $130,000. sticker
price but hey the real reason you'd want to have
one in the first place is just to feel what it's
like to go from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds.
In any case the BMW Z8 is sure to be a legend.
