We can't claim that this precision crafted 1:18
scale die cast reproduction of the Super 7 will
live up to that slogan given to it by owners of
the real one. Nevertheless, with authentic details
such as lift off hood, chrome plated muffler,
rear mounted spare tire, English side working
steering system and Lotus Racing Green factory
baked enamel finish, this replica exudes speed
and performance. But don't look for a radio, as
the Super 7 is much too noisy for the driver to
ever hear one.
The Best Driver's Car Ever Built
Colin Chapman, founder and chief designer of Britain's
famous Lotus Cars had always dreamed of designing
a lightweight-racing car that was also "street
legal."
In 1957, after six attempts, he finally realized
his dream with the production of the Lotus 7 Caterham
Cars. An English distributor purchased the exclusive
production rights from Lotus in 1973. Chapman
designed a car that was extremely lightweight,
only 1200 pounds, by eliminating almost all creature
comforts such as doors and adjustable seats. This
design has now stayed in production for over 40
years. Although engines have varied over the years,
horsepower, ranging from 40 to 130, was never
crucial to the Super 7's speed due to its light
weight. In fact, in 1976 the Super 7 was banned
from racing because it was too fast.
