1941 Plymouth Pick-Up - Last of the Pre-War Light Trucks - Last Plymouth Pick-Up Ever Produced - Plymouth had carved out a nice niche in the pick-up business in the 1930s and early 1940s. 1941 was one of its better years, producing 6,073 at $625. After this year, production was moved to military demands for the duration of WWII. After the war, Chrysler decided to switch all pick-up production to Dodge, making this 'bug-eyed wonder', so called because of the headlights mounted on the fender, the last Plymouth pick-up. 1941 Plymouth® Special Deluxe - Best Engineered Car of its Class. In 1941, car buffs were surprised when a survey of independent garage mechanics picked the Plymouth as the best engineered car in its class, better then Ford and Chevy. Using this survey as the spark to its advertising campaign, Plymouth had its best year ever, selling over 1/2 million cars and almost edging out Ford for 2nd place. The brightest star in the Plymouth galaxy! - Selling over 350,000 cars at $795. Chrysler designers and engineers had given this model a complete facelift, inside and out. The new chrome 'bib' grill and triple 'speed lines' on all four fenders, gave it a stylish look that belied the fact that it was the only car of its class that still offered running boards. Under the hood, the 201.3 cid Flathead 6 provided 87 horsepower, which combined with an oil bath air cleaner and 'Powermatic' vacuum-assisted gearshift to give the Special Deluxe power to spare. In fact, the 1941 Plymouth would turn out to be one of the mainstays of the fledging NASCAR circuit a decade later. Fully authorized by Plymouth, this 1:32 scale precision die-cast replica of the 1941 Plymouth Special Deluxe, has been constructed from original Plymouth specifications.
